How Passive Skill Inheritance Works: Candidate Pool & Odds
In Palworld, breeding for optimal passive traits is not purely random. It is governed by a **two-stage candidate pool roll**:
- Candidate Pool Formation: All unique passive skills carried by Parent 1 and Parent 2 are combined into a single trait pool of size
k = |P1 โช P2|. Duplicate skills across parents do not grant extra weight. - Slot Roll: The game rolls how many passive slots (1 to 4) the offspring will inherit:
- 1 Slot: 40% probability
- 2 Slots: 30% probability
- 3 Slots: 20% probability
- 4 Slots: 10.0% probability
Why Junk Traits Ruin Breeding: If parents have even 1 unwanted passive trait (e.g. Glutton or Coward), the pool expands to k = 5. Because only 4 slots can be filled, your odds of hitting all 4 desired traits crash from 10.0% down to just 4.8%. At k = 6, your odds drop to 2.1%.
